What is psychiatry? Psychiatry is a medical field that focuses on diagnosing, treating, and preventing mental health disorders. Psychiatrists are medical doctors who specialize in understanding the complexities of the mind and its impact on behavior, emotions, and overall well-being.
What if I don’t feel comfortable with my psychiatrist? It’s important to feel comfortable and trust your psychiatrist. If you don’t feel a good fit, it’s okay to seek a different provider. Mental health treatment is a personal journey, and finding someone who you feel safe with is key to your progress.

Do I need a referral to see a Psychiatrist? No, you may call and book an appointment without a referral.
Is it necessary to be on medication if you are seeing a psychiatrist? Not necessarily, each individual is different and has a different treatment approach. After your initial session a treatment plan will be discusssed and it will be a collaborative decision between myself and you, as the patient.
Can I see a psychiatrist virtually? Yes, I offer tele psychiatric services, however checking in in-person is needed and advised.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule an appointment? We understand that life can be unpredictable. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please contact our office at least 24 hours in advance to avoid any cancellation fees and to allow us to offer the appointment to another patient.
Are the sessions confidential? Yes, all sessions are confidential. Psychiatrists are bound by strict privacy laws to protect your personal and health information. There are exceptions to confidentiality, such as when there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, but these are rare and discussed with you if they apply.
What do I need to bring to my first appointment? Please bring the following: Form of identification Your medical aid card and information A list of current medications Any relevant medical records Any forms or documentation requested by our office This will help us ensure a smooth and efficient visit.
